Instruments
Most instruments are normally stocked, others are available to firm order on receipt of 50% non-returnable deposit. The RRP of an instrument (where applicable) is listed in the first column followed by our DISCOUNT PRICE. All prices on this web site are in pounds sterling unless stated otherwise. They include VAT (sales tax) where applicable

Free Trial
Most instruments & accessories (not reeds or music) are sent on 7 days approval from time of receipt but PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE DESPATCH of goods. Cheques will be cashed on receipt of order but refunded, less our carriage costs if items are returned within the approval period. We charge a re-stocking fee of £2 per mouthpiece returned from approval.

Ordering
To work out the total price of an instrument take the discount price and add on the cost of carriage (see below). We cannot take orders via email due to security considerations. But you can order by phone, fax, or by post (address and phone numbers listed below). Please make cheques payable to 'John Myatt Woodwind' and write your name, address and cheque card number on the back. If paying by MasterCard, Visa, Switch, Solo or JCB we require the card number, expiry date and cardholder's name and address, with Switch we also require the 'issue' number. You can also order by phone using any of the cards listed above. When supplies are delayed an approximate delivery date will be quoted and alternatives suggested if necessary. Electron cards can not be used for mail order or standard rentals. Cheques are accepted but must be cleared before dispatch of goods.

Carriage
Charges to the majority of the U.K. (excluding Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Scottish Islands/Highlands & Northern Ireland) are as follows prices based on the total order value, per order:-

Our minimum order is £ 5 excluding carriage.

Reed and most accessory orders are sent by first class post, other items are normally sent using a next day delivery service (excluding weekends). Carriage rates to the areas listed above or overseas are available on request.

Repairs
Our workshop (situated on the first floor ) is co-ordinated by Graham de Vere White who runs his own repair business from the within the shop (01462 421402) and has been with us since day one. He has lectured on repair techniques at both Merton and Newark colleges and is one of the UK 's most experienced and respected repairers. 

We recommend returning new instruments for a free check-up 6 - 8 weeks after purchase and again before the expiry of the guarantee.

Prices for common repairs
WOODWIND : A repad involves stripping and cleaning the instrument and replacement of pads. Corks, felts and springs are examined for signs of wear and tear and replaced as necessary. The action is reassembled, resetting and regulating throughout. An overhaul is as a repad but with an additional thorough cleaning and polishing of the body, keys and action.

Secondhand
Our Secondhand List updated daily. Lists are available from the shop, the internet or by fax. When requesting a list please state the type of instrument you are looking for.

'ON COMMISSION' SALES : We are pleased to sell customers instruments on a commission basis through the shop. Instruments are advertised in our regular secondhand lists which are available on request or on the internet where they are seen by 100’s of players every month. Our commission rate is 20% for all items. The selling price is decided by us and any repair work needed is charged to the seller.

Sheet Music
We stock over 8000 titles and are able to supply Associated Board, Trinity College, Guildhall and Diploma syllabus pieces. The department also holds books on music and music theory, aural training and playing technique along with music videos.

We can reserve music from stock to be collected at your convenience. Please supply as much detail as possible about the music you require when placing an order e.g. title, composer and publisher. A visit is always worthwhile even if its only to browse through our bargain basement of cut price music!

Extended Warranty Scheme
As part of our customer care service our extended warranty membership offers the following privileges to purchasers of instruments from John Myatt Woodwind and Brass following the expiry of our comprehensive one year guarantee:

• Repair and Maintenance
  Repair and maintenance of your instruments during the warranty period . All routine maintenance and set up is covered unless caused by mistreatment, unusual usage or routine wear and tear. If your instrument is being sent by post/courier you will be responsible for carriage charges both to and from the shop.
   
• VIP Discount 10% off Accessories
  You will be entitled to a 10% discount on all accessories purchased during the warranty period. This does NOT apply to reeds or sheet music; but all other accessories are included - mouthpieces, cases, stands, metronomes, tuners etc. etc.

Insurance
It is advisable to ensure that your instrument is insured - this can sometimes be effected by adding to your household policy as a “specified valuable”, but check the small print with care as there are often exclusions which could render the insurance useless to you, e .g. if the instrument is out of the house, at school, in your car, being used professionally, at a gig, etc. There are a number of policies designed specifically with the musician in mind which cover some or all of the aforementioned eventualities.

• Cover Note Scheme
  We can arrange instant wide ranging insurance cover for your newly purchased instrument through the Cover Note Scheme Please ask for full details .
   

• Instruments on Approval
  Unfortunately instruments on approval are NOT insured - we can arrange a basic insurance however for a fee of :
  £5 - total value of instruments up to £3000 or
  £10 - total value £3000 - £7500
  Please note that this only covers instruments while at the customer’s home (for theft claims, as is fairly standard, there has to be evidence of forcible entry).
   

• Rented Instruments
  Owing to prohibitive costs we do not cover rented instruments - if you are renting an instrument check that it is covered or look at one of the policies above!

This Powell flute illustrates clearly why we recommend paying for insurance if sending instruments - although carefully packed a lorry clearly ran over it between its home and Hitchin!

' Buyback' Scheme
Are you thinking of renting? Why not buy the instrument at our discount price with our 'Buyback Scheme'? If you don't get on with it return it within six months and we will buy it back for 80% of the price paid! Click here for more details.

Rental
As an alternative to the 'Buyback' scheme we offer a rental scheme. Choose from selected new, secondhand or special offer instruments. Our termly (4 month) rates are very competitive and you may purchase the instrument at any time for the DISCOUNT PRICE (where listed) less half a term's rental. If the rental is continued, after 10 terms the instrument becomes yours. See rental form for full details. We also offer short-term rental.

Exports
We export instruments and accessories to all corners of the world. Please note that V .A .T . is not chargeable on exports to non-EU countries or to VAT registered bodies or individuals in E .U . countries. Exports to non-registered indivduals/bodies in the E .U . will be charged VAT at the normal rate. For further information including carriage costs please write to our Export Department.
